The Omega Windows team was on-hand to aid this commercial project in Broadstairs, Kent. As well as manufacturing the windows and doors, our team of installers carried out the installation at the Ocean Drive modern apartment development. We applied a unique glass throughout this project – specifically requested by the architect and client.

This prestigious project was valued at £350,000 and consisted of two blocks, Seabreeze and Sunrise. Work began on the manufacturing of the products in October, 2018, with fitting completed in May 2019. Located on the North Foreland estate, these apartments range from 1,883 to 2,525 square feet.

Heat Soaked Glass

Ensuring this installation far surpassed industry standards regarding performance values, our team of experts employed a process that would normally be specifically requested. In order to benefit from impressive insulation properties, the glass used in this project had been heat soaked. Heat soaking is a specific process over and above the normal toughening procedure. Utilising this method reduces the incidence of spontaneous breakage in tempered glass that is caused by nickel sulphide. The float glass that we installed is manufactured by combining sand, soda ash, limestone, dolomite, salt cake and other ingredients into a furnace heated to a temperature slightly above 1500°C.

This molten glass is then fed into a tin bath where it literally floats on top of a layer of molten tin. As the glass flows along the tin surface, it enters an annealing lehr, where the rate of cooling is controlled to reduce residual stresses within the glass. During the manufacturing process, undissolved particles may form within the glass. For the most part, these are clearly visible and glass containing these inclusions is removed and discarded from the production run.

The glass spec was:- 6mm HS Super Neutral 70/35 TG / 16mm Triseal Super Spacer With Argon / 6.4mm Clear Laminate Heat Soaked 6mm almost throughout most of the project. This added not only to the insulation and performance of the glass units but also to the security.

Modern Aesthetics

Within these builds, we fitted a range of our quality products that have contributed to the modern and stylish look of the build. This included our range of Cornerless Patio Doors, Cornerless Bifolding Doors, Cornerless Windows, Tilt and Turn Windows, Casement Windows, Residential Doors, Aluminium Entrance Doors and Commercial Entrance Doors to each block. The anthracite grey RAL colour 7016 for the frames has added to design. As with all our double glazing products, we offer more than 250 different colours available, including RAL colours.

Each of these products is built with a modern profile, meaning these Broadstairs homeowners can enjoy lasting quality. Even after constant exposure to the sea air and changeable Broadstairs weather, the profile will not decrease in quality. The windows and doors will never warp, bow, twist, rot, crack, flake or discolour. When this is combined with the panes of glazing, it can help provide a good level of security across the whole frame.

Each of our products is then fitted with multi-point locking. this is installed across the frame to reduce any potential weak spots. To make these apartments more attractive to the buyer, these windows and doors can be awarded Secured by Design accreditation.
