What is privacy glass?

Obscure glass, textured glass or sometimes window frosting are all different names for privacy glass. Privacy glass put simply increases your privacy levels.

Whilst films are available that you can stick onto your window to achieve a frosted look. Privacy glass actually has a texture. The surface of the glass has a pattern rolled onto it. This happens during manufacture and before the surface of the glass cools. This creates textured glass. There are several specific patterns or designs that are impressed on the surface. Textured or privacy glass is used for both decorative or obscuration purposes. It is translucent, so still transmits diffused light. But also offers a degree of privacy which depends on the pattern used. Some of the patterns give a greater level of obscurity than others.

It is important to remember that it only obscures the view. It does not totally block people from seeing in, although it does impede their view somewhat. Whilst people will not be able to see a perfect view of your showering, it is still best to use a blind!

• Double or triple glazed units are easily made using privacy glass.
